Hopefully everyone is enjoying their Easter Sunday, I send my best wishes to all of you and your families! I received some great news this weekend as far as future prospecting content goes so I wanted to share here with everybody.
First, a former writer for Fantrax was kind enough to share their sheet with me that includes thousands of prospect’s birthdays. There was no way to export that information from FanGraphs or Baseball Reference so this is big for me. Now I can create a formula in my hobby rankings that will update the player’s age with decimals on a daily basis. Prior to having this it was a big block in fully automating my rankings because the player’s age is an important piece of the puzzle.
More important than a prospect’s age when it comes to calculating the buying value is their autograph price. I’ve had quite a few people ask me if the Master Buy Sheet would be updated throughout the season but the task of updating the pricing regularly for 500+ prospects felt like a tall order. That was until one of my subscribers DM’d me with one of the most amazing pieces of card technology that I’ve ever seen. He wrote a script that scrapes eBay for sales and automatically updates a players’ price. It’s almost impossible to make one that only finds 1st base autos. They almost always pull information for parallels/colors, other products with Bowman in the name (Sterling, Inception, etc.), or non-1st autos. This one is absolutely dialed in, makes an average from the last three 1st base auto sales, and has the ability to update daily. My main goal with the Substack is to help everyone recognize players who are breaking out before the market catches up. Thanks to the help of these two very kind gentlemen, I’m very close to having a Buy Ratings sheet that I can update for every prospect at least once a week.
No lie both of those things came across my DM’s in the same day, and I’m absolutely floored by the generosity and can’t wait to get to work to put it to use so we can all make money. I figured that all of that good fortune coming at once means it’s time to show my appreciation for you all by giving away something great. Both of those came from 2022 Bowman Draft Lite boxes, so I figured why not see if one of you can replicate the magic!
